Police Discovers Guns In Catholic Priest’s Home In Imo State.

A Roman Catholic priest whose name is being withheld is currently being interrogated by men of the Nigerian police over unlawful possession of firearms.

The Imo State-based priest, who oversees one of the prominent Parishes in Dikenafai, Ideato South Local Government area, Imo State, was arrested for possessing three unlicensed guns, with which he threatened the lives of his parishioners.

It was gathered that the guns including one pump action rifle, one double-barrelled gun and a locally-made pistol were recovered by the operatives of the Special Armed Robbery Squad (SARS), Imo State Police Command, from his official residence.

It was gathered that, SARS acted on a tip off from concerned parishioners.
A source said that problem started when after some armed robbers reportedly attacked the priest in his official residence and he openly accused some prominent citizens of the area of masterminding the robbery.
This made some of them to write a petition to the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, accusing the priest of threatening their lives with dangerous weapons.
The police boss immediately sent men of the SARS to the cleric’s residence where they recovered the firearms.

Investigation on the matter is still ongoing.
