Kate Middleton, Prince William, and little Prince George arrived at St. James's Palace in London for the christening of one of the most famous babies in the world. The royal christening took place inside the Chapel Royal and was overseen by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The guest list was small (only 22 people were invited) but included the queen and William and Kate's parents and siblings. What is large is the number of godparents, seven in total, which include William's cousin Zara Tindall; Julia Samuel, one of Princess Diana's close friends; and a collection of childhood and college friends of William and Kate. George was christened in a replica of the royal christening robe, which, until 2004, was used to baptize every single royal baby since Queen Victoria's time. A replica was made a few years ago as the original robe had begun to deteriorate. The robe wasn't the only traditional detail in the service, as George was christened in the Lily Font, a silver baptismal font that was commissioned by Queen Victoria, and blessed with water from the River Jordan. As for Kate, she wore a cream Alexander McQueen ensemble.
After the baptism, the guests traveled to Clarence House for tea and a slice of cake from a preserved tier from William and Kate's wedding cake. The official portrait from the christening isn't expected to be released until tomorrow.
