I greet and felicitate with you all as we enter the year 2014 which promises to be a momentous one for our country for several reasons, including the fact that it is also the year of our great nation’s centenary celebrations.
I join you all in giving thanks to God Almighty for guiding us and our beloved nation safely through all the challenges of the outgoing year to the beginning of 2014.
Exactly 100 years ago today, on January 1, 1914, the British Colonial authorities amalgamated what was then the separate Protectorates of Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria, giving birth to the single geopolitical entity known as Nigeria.

Group Moves To Rename 'Nollywood' As 'Naiwood'

Just in case you haven't heard, a group of members of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), led by Yomi Fabiyi, is moving to change the name for Nigeria's movie industry from Nollywood to 'Naiwood'.
Cos, according to them :

The name Nollywood is stained with Tribalism. Nollywood @ 20 was organized and  celebrated with the support of just 1 association out of the many in the movie industry.

Speaking with entertainment reporters, Yomi said:

At the inception of the name Nollywood, we all embraced it with open arms without
even probing the source. As time went by, few flashes of some ill motives surfaced. See! If this Nollywood thing continues or let me say the agenda behind it, Nigeria may begin to spilt from there. Too many tribalism. 

Akure Kingdom gets new female monarch: Late Deji Akure’s First Daughter Takes Over His Throne

The first daughter of late Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida, who died of an undisclosed ailment on the 2nd of December, has been made the he new traditional ruler of Akure Kingdom.

Princess Adetutu Adeside-Ojie's position is said to be temporary pending when a new king emerges. She was installed after several traditional rites for the passage of her late father came to conclusion recently. The 36 year old new monarch lived abroad most of her life and holds a degree in pharmacy from the Texas Southern University, Houston Texas.

Until her appointment as the Kingdom's regent, Princess Adetutu worked as a clinical pharmacist with the University Health system, Hospital in San Antonto Texas. She is married with three children.

Boko Haram Kills Eight In Bachelor Party Attack In Maiduguri

Around 11pm Saturday night December 28th, three men suspected to be members of Islamic militant Boko Haram invaded a bachelor party at Tashan Alade village in Maiduguri and opened fire on the party-goers, killing eight of them and injuring several others.

An witness who survived the attack said the men came in two motorcycles, joined the party like they were guests and before anyone knew what was going on, they brought out their rifles and started shooting indiscriminately. They fled the scene after making sure several people were dead.

D’Banj Disappointed Me; OJB Speaks In New Interview

"The most disappointing one for me is D'banj because he passed through my hands, he was trained under my tutelage. That is offensive. Yvonne Nelson Featured On US website For Bleaching(Photos)

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson was featured in US website Atlanta Blackstar’s list of 15 celebrities suspected to be bleaching their skin. While Yvonne has constantly denies that she uses skin lightening products, the change in her skin tone is rather noticeable.

Other people on that list include dancehall singer Vybz Kartel, rapper Lil Kim, actress Halle Berry, singer Tamar Braxton, fashion icon Imam Abdulmajid.

US Spy Drone That Crashed Into A Home In Ibadan Was A Toy - New Report

Days ago, reports went viral that a mysterious flying object believed to be a US spy drone flew into the toilet of a house located at Awotan in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to Nigerian Tribune, aviation sources said the spacecraft, suspected to be United States’ latest spying venture in Nigeria, with registration number TX 5803, inscribed on a black battery was a drone which must have taken off from NASA base in Texas in the US.
That the battery attached to the spacecraft powered it and enabled it to move around so that it could do the bidding of those who sent it.

The craft, which was said to have dropped down from the orbit, flew into a toilet in the house of Ashipa of Awotan, Chief Tajudeen  Adetoro, a few minutes after his grandson, Afeez  Adewale and daughter-in-law, Adikat, left the toilet where they had gone to ease themselves.

Chief Adetoro said the mysterious aircraft forced itself into his toilet through the roof making a deafening sound.
That it could have killed Afeez and his mother, if it had met them in the toilet.

Wole Soyinka’s 2nd daughter confirmed dead at 48

Noble Laureate and Professor Wole Soyinka has reportedly lost his daughter Iyetade Apampa who died while receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
A statement confirming the sad news was released on Sunday, December 29, 2013 by Soyinka’s close aide Jahman Anikulapo (former Editor of the Guardian) on behalf of the family.
Anikulapo described Iyetade as an ‘affable, intelligent and sometimes capricious’ lady who ‘struggled with her health in recent years’.
‘In spite of this, she greeted every day with a smile and doted on her two children. She took ill quite suddenly and passed away while being treated at UCH, Ibadan. Iyetade leaves behind two children, both parents, numerous siblings, nieces and nephews’, the statement read.
Burial arrangements have not been announced yet.

In his latest revelations, Pope Francis said: "Through humility, soul searching, and prayerful contemplation we have gained a new understanding of certain dogmas. The church no longer believes in a literal hell where people suffer.

This doctrine is incompatible with the infinite love of God. God is not a judge but a friend and a lover of humanity. God seeks not to condemn but only to embrace. Like the fable of Adam and Eve, we see hell as a literary device. Hell is merely a metaphor for the isolated soul, which like all souls ultimately will be united in love with God.”

 A few months ago, it was reported that MTN project fame 3 winner, Chidinma Ekile aka Mz Kedike had quit her church choir.
According to reports, Chidinma Ekile - a member of the Choir in Foursquare Gospel Church - was forced to leave the choir due to her 'unholy' dressing.
When it comes to dressing, Foursquare Gospel church is  very strict with its members and workers but following her fame and genre of music, Chidinma could no longer comply with the dress code, the reports claimed.

  On Monday Dec 23, 2013 top actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie donated various materials and food stuffs to 5000 widows in Uromi, her husband's home town. According to sources, she made the entire widows and the people of Uromi very happy this Christmas.

       The actress was able to achieve this through her Mercy Johnson Okojie's Foundation, which is geared towards the improvement of less privileged people and women in the society. Each widow of over 5000 received a bag of rice, 6 yards of super print, a bag of salt, groundnut oil, tin tomatoes and  maggi cubes.

Q: What was the experience of being in one house for 91 days like?

A: It was   not easy at all being there for 91 days. But it was a wonderful experience. It had positive impact on all of us.  We learned to live with people of different temperament from different countries and backgrounds. We got to tolerate and endure each other because of the rule that said one was never to allow oneself to be provoked.   It was a very wonderful experience and I don’t regret going for it.
